Pipe organ concert set Sunday

The dean of the Southern Plains Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will treat the community to a free concert Sunday.

Adam Mark Pajan, who is also the director of music and organist at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman, will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Lawton, 1302 SW A.

Pajan was in Lawton on Wednesday to play Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church's new pipe organ, which he helped install the week before, at morning Mass and to rehearse the program for Sunday's concert at First Presbyterian.

On Sunday, the hour-long concert will include "works by Bach and Mendelssohn, a variation on 'Lift High the Cross' and I'll finish with two pieces by American composers on variations of 'The Star-Spangled Banner,'" said Pajan, who has just completed the requirements for his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ with a church music emphasis at the American Organ Institute at the University of Oklahoma School of Music.

The concert will be the second in what Alan Faries, music director at First Presbyterian, hopes will be a series of concerts featuring organists from the American Organ Institute at OU and from the American Guild of Organists.
