National Day of Prayer slated
The 63rd National Day of Prayer observances on May 1 will begin early in the Lawton area with both a national and local point of view.
The national theme for this year is "One Voice, United in Prayer" and the scripture verse is from Romans 15:6: "So that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ," said Dwayne Hall, event coordinator for the Lawton-Fort Sill National Day of Prayer Task Force.
The all-day event begins with a 6:30 a.m. prayer breakfast for chamber of commerce members followed by an 8 a.m.-to-8 p.m. program in the Lawton City Hall's first floor conference room.
The local theme is based on 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land," said Don Patterson. He has organized a 6:45 a.m. prayer and praise gathering at Comanche Home Center's flagpole, No.2 SW C, which he has done for approximately 15 years.
