Lawton Heights to open closet
Lawton Heights United Methodist Church will open its community closet and book store, 1510 NW Andrews, for the public starting at 9 a.m. Monday.
The Rev. Darrel Maddox, pastor, said the closet will have various clothing for men and women and some for children in different styles and books of different genres. Clothes and books can be purchased for a donation; there is no price tag.
"Clothing can be expensive and we have clothing articles that are high value brand names and are in exceptional condition," Maddox said. "We also have Bibles and books from different genres and both fictions and non-fictions."
Maddox said the establishment was made possible by the donations from the church congregation. Those who want to make a donation of the items for the closet or store are welcome to do so, he added.
"There are a lot of folks in the community who are struggling and they call the church looking for assistance," Maddox said. "If they can purchase clothes and books for a small amount, that will benefit them."
