Concert raises funds for housing project
A concert to raise funds for a housing project for the homeless is scheduled for June 26, and organizers hope it also will raise awareness of the project and the need for it.
The concert will be from 6-9 p.m. at 1309 Cache Road and will feature local artists, including Poetic Paul, Geddenon, Moses Oatman, Alpha Team and Promise Son. The concert will also feature E-Boys, God's Family Christian Center (GFCC) Praise Team and DJ Tech. Admission is $2 and food will be served.
Pastor Ricky Gettens, known among the group as "Pastor Rick," said Living Life: Housing With a Purpose is in need of funds for repairs and construction.
Gettens said homelessness is a growing problem in the city and the housing project aims to help the individuals and families to get on their feet.
The goal is to raise $20,000 from the concert that will help the residents and projects at Living Life Housing. Gettens said the project also has a Go Fund Me account where residents can help the program financially. The concert will feature uplifting and inspirational Christian music.
"We decided to organize a concert for the fundraiser because I think that everybody can relate to music," Gettens said. "With music we can relate to happiness, pain and sadness. Sometimes music helps us to understand each other more than talking."
