Vida Ruth Culbertson
FLETCHER Funeral for Vida Ruth Culbertson, 89, Fletcher, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at the Fletcher Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Trautman officiating.
Burial will follow at Old Elgin Cemetery under direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home.
Mrs. Culbertson passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018, in Norman.
Vida Ruth Braly was born Sept. 4, 1928, in Marlow to George and Lettie (True) Braly. She moved with her family to Rock Springs Community, where she first attended a country school. The family left that community in 1939 to live in Blumenshine Community, where she attended another one-room country school until moving to Sterling and attending Sterling School. She worked as a babysitter, and then worked at Fort Sill.
Vida Ruth married Beoidth (B.L.) Dees on Aug. 9, 1959. The two were married for 15 years when he passed away March 28, 1975. Later in life, on Dec. 15, 1977, she married Kenneth Culbertson, and they made their home in Fletcher. She is a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church. She raised her family, worked at the Cyril Nursing Home and was a caregiver for many people living in Fletcher.
She is survived by four sons: David Allen Dees and his wife, Janie, of Geronimo; Bailey Dees of Chickasha; Terrell Culbertson and his wife, Lynda, of Texas; and Charles Culbertson of Lawton; three daughters: DeAnn Hill of Fletcher, Sue Castelman and her husband, Gentry, of Duncan and Dianna Simmons and her husband, Steve, of Marlow; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, Beoidth (B.L.) Dees and Kenneth Culbertson; her parents, George and Lettie Braly; four brothers: Sam, M.B., Doyle and Raymond Braly; two sisters, Essie Wade and Ora Mae Boyd; a son-in-law, LaRue Hill; and a daughter-in-law, Sheilah Culbertson.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
