Vendall M. Brigance
Funeral for 1st Sgt. Vendall M. Brigance, 84, Lawton, will be at noon Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Brigance passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014, in Lawton.
Burial with full military honors will be at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.
Vendall was born on Dec. 4, 1929, in Seminole to Claude and Allie Hurt Brigance. He grew up in Morris where he graduated from Morris High School in 1948. He attended Connors State University and joined the Army National Guard. He was later activated into the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, receiving many medals and awards before retiring in 1979. He married Gisela Werle on May 25, 1957, in Germany. Mr. Brigance returned to college, receiving his bachelor's degree in business administration from Cameron University. He worked for number of years at the education center with civil service at Fort Sill. He was a member of the India Shriners and a 32nd Degree Mason. Vendall was an animal lover who cared for dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Gisela, of the home; his daughter, Patty Brigance of Greenville, Texas; four sons and three daughters-in-law: Ray Brigance of Dallas, John and Kathryn Brigance of Norman, Chuck and M.J. Brigance of Flower Mound, Texas, and Michael and Laurie Brigance of Dallas, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil and Virginia Brigance of Morris and Bud and Letha Brigance of Fort Gibson; his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Thomas Payne of Tulsa; four grandchildren: Michael Brigance, Brice Brigance, Megan Brigance and Tori Brigance; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ollie Jean Brigance.
