Velia "Heart" Rose Silverhorn
Funeral for Velia "Heart" Rose Silverhorn, 69, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Rainy Mountain Kiowa Indian Baptist Church with Pastor Gerald Haunpo and the Rev. Dr. Kim Mammedaty officiating.
She died Saturday, April 7, 2018, in Lawton with her family by her side.
Burial will be at the Rainy Mountain Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home. Prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the funeral home in Lawton with Tina Baker officiating. Heart was born Jan 8, 1949, in Fort Cobb, to Arthur and Alice Silverhorn. Heart graduated from Chilocco Indian School and attended Caddo Kiowa Tech Center with numerous certifications. She's worked most of her life as a cook, which she did very well and was known for. She loved softball, and played for numerous years and was also a good pool player. She was a member of Rainy Mountain Kiowa Indian Baptist Church, serving as a Caretaker. Heart was an accomplished fry bread maker and won many first places at the Anadarko Fair. Many people came to her Cook for Peyote Meetings. She made the traditional morning and noon meals for many meetings. She was also a proud member of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma and was also of Kiowa and Apache descendent. Heart is survived by her longtime companion, Ralph Mammedaty Jr.; children: Teka Henry, Marlene Thomason, Arlene Englebrecht, all of Lawton; Ranee Codynah of Anadarko; Angela Carlton, of Florida; stepchildren Kim and Jeff Codynah, Lawton; brother, McArthur Silverhornm Anadarko; sisters: Anita Brandon, Lawton, Lawnna Wermy, Geronimo; grandchildren: Jhanee, Amanda, Meah, David, Chance, Devon, Celeste, Collin, Mikela, Rhoda, Travis, Todd, Keevon, Keelyn, Briauna, Destiny, Nitaya, Jocelyn, Scarlett, Keevon, Keelyn, Briauna, Naila, Nakota, Junie, Alicia, Keyona, Yawnna; great-grandchildren: Nova, Kayleigh, Davina, Remi, Joshua, Amyah, Aiyana, Ja'laya, Branlley, Breanna, Anthony, Laci, Molly, Dominic, Anthony, Waylon, Baker, Kitty, Rian, Shia, Kamea, Kevin, Kristian, Fabian, Enrique, Manual, and Marilyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Brenda Lane and Joetta Fite; brother, Richard Allen; son, Marvin Carlton; stepson Kevin Codynah.
