Robert Leon Godfrey

Funeral service for former Frederick resident Robert Leon Godfrey, age 92, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick with Mike Haverland officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Godfrey passed away Friday, November 1, 2019, in a Lawton hospital.

Robert Leon Godfrey was born May 3, 1927, in Manitou, Oklahoma to Miller and Leona Florence Elizabeth (Matheson) Godfrey. He attended Frederick Public School, graduating from Frederick High School in 1945. He entered the United States Army on August 20, 1945, where he served during the World War II Era in Korea, and was later discharged on January 30, 1947. On January 22, 1948, he and Johnnie Louise Perryman were united in marriage in Vernon, Texas. He worked as an auto body repairman for O.E. Brittain Ford Motor Co. for several years and later owned and operated the Godfrey’s Auto Beauty Shop. He was a volunteer fireman with the Frederick Fire Department, where he retired. When his kids were young, he was a little league baseball coach. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was a very honest, good-hearted, and kind gentleman. He was a member of the 13th and Josephine Church of Christ where he was a Sunday School teacher, deacon and was on the planning committee when the church building was built.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert Godfrey and his wife Donna of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and John Godfrey and his wife Angel of Wabash, Indiana; and one daughter, Shirley Godfrey of Lawton, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Carmen Bunch, Carly Lamb and her husband Justin, Velinda Hellen and her wife Kate, Paige Godfrey, Braxton Godfrey, and Katie Fretz and her husband Issac; four great-grandchildren, Brittany Brown and her husband J.C., Skylar Bunch, Summer Bunch and Ayden Lamb, five great-great-grandchildren, Ripley Brown, Cooper Martin, Charli Pridgen, Willow Pridgen and Ryder Fretz and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Miller and Leona Godfrey; his wife, Johnnie Godfrey; and two sisters, Billie Fondren Wilson and Jurhee Cupp.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick Fire Department or to the Donor’s Choice in memory of Robert Leon Godfrey.
