Funeral Service for MSG (Retired) Joseph Dew, Jr. will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in The Christian Center with Pastor Paul Craig officiating.
Burial with full military honors and Masonic rites will follow at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
MSG (Retired) Joseph Dew, Jr., age 84, of Lawton, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 in Lawton. He was born December 20, 1934 in Wilson, North Carolina to Joseph, Sr. and Mattie (Farmer) Dew. Sgt. Dew married Gladys Delores Perkins in Norfolk, Virginia. She died May 19, 1983. He was a proud 1952 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, in Norfolk, Virginia. He also attended Norfolk State University and Cameron University. Sgt. Dew was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His many awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster). He retired from the U.S. Army after more than twenty-four years of service. Following his retirement, he was a civilian instructor at Fort Sill where he received the Instructor of the Year Award in 1992. Sgt. Dew was a devout member of The Christian Center and was also a member of Prince Hall #9 Masonic Lodge in Lawton. He loved gardening, photography and fishing.
Survivors include four children; Sylvia Harden, Newport News, Virginia, Gwen Clayton-Johnson and her husband, Tyrone, Ypsilanti, Michigan, Jovette R. Dew, Stillwater, Oklahoma and Carol Robertson and her husband, Dale, Vancouver, Washington, three grandchildren; Sha’Re Clayton, Christina Clayton and Shena Harden-Phillips, six great grandchildren; Kisean Bryant, Jayda Agurs, Trevon Olive, Brooklyn Olive, Ava Gibson and Jackson Phillips and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sisters, Julia Matthews and Maggie Walston and a brother, John L. Dew.
