Michael Dean Cassell
A memorial service for Michael Dean Cassell will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2019 in First Baptist Church with Dr. Patrick Latham, Pastor officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Cumberland, Maryland. Local arrangements are under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Michael Dean Cassell, age 60, was born May 7, 1959 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Layke Hunter and Ethel Virginia Cassell. He died at his residence on August 28, 2019. Mike’s family moved to Maryland in 1967. He grew up in Catonsville, Maryland and was a 1978 graduate of Catonsville High School. Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until his discharge on October 5, 1982 at Fort Sill. His awards include the Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Driver Badge, 45 Caliber Marksman, Rifle M16 Marksman, Hand grenade (Sharpshooter), Overseas Service Ribbon – 2nd Award, Army Achievement Medal and the Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.
Following his discharge Mike remained in Lawton. He was a long-time employee of First Baptist Church and at the time of his death was the Building Superintendent.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Ann “Tootie” Hinebaugh, Maryland; his brother, Alvin Cassell, Florida; two nephews, Seth and Joshua; and a niece Kera.
His parents and two brothers, David and Layke Cassell, preceded him in death.
