Marvin Douglas Huff
Funeral service for Marvin Douglas Huff, age 77, of Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Tipton with Rev. Les Banks and Rev. Harold Gaches officiating. Burial will follow in the Tipton Cemetery with Masonic Rites under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Huff passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his home in Tipton.
Marvin Douglas Huff was born on September 28, 1941 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Richard Kenneth and Mattie Mae (Dosher) Huff. He attended Tipton Public School and graduated from Tipton High School in 1959. He later attended Southwest University in Weatherford where he played football. Marvin ran Huff Service Station for many years. He later farmed and ranched with his Dad and continued with his own sons. He also had Huff Trucking. Marvin served twenty years on the Tipton Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for eleven years. After retiring from the fire department, he was elected to the Tipton City Council. He served as mayor of Tipton from 1982-1991 and then from 2005-2017. He was instrumental in getting the old bank building remodeled for the city hall and police department and through grants he assisted getting the senior citizens building remodeled. He served on the Tipton Co-op Board, Senior Citizens Board, Tillman County Fair Board. He was past master of the Frederick Masonic Lodge #249 and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He loved to hunt and spending time with his hunting dogs and hunting buddies. He was a true family man, his family was his life. He loved the Tipton community.
He is survived by his wife, Ellyn Huff of the home; three sons, Mark Huff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Craig Huff and wife Teressa of Tipton, Oklahoma and Ryan Huff of Norman, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Sheala Cobb and her husband Shane, Keilee Hardesty and her husband Zac, Austin Huff and his wife Whitney, Houston Huff and Jordan Huff; seven great-grandchildren, Jerryt and Jentry McKaughan, Cooper Hardesty, Daytyn and Warryn Huff and Annalyn and Rydge Huff; one brother, Lon Huff of Edmond, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Gerry and Bill Shaw, and Darla Carr; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shea Ellyn Huff; his parents; Richard and Mattie Mae Huff; one sister and brother-in-law; Ladine and Clane Kirtley; one granddaughter, Jodi Huff; his in-laws, Andy and Wilma Van Groningen; one sister-in-law, Marjean Brown; and one brother-in-law, Jim Carr.
Visitation will be on Saturday evening from 5 until 7 at First Baptist Church in the Tipton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Volunteer Fire Department, Tipton Senior Citizens Center or the Tipton Cemetery in memory of Marvin Huff.
