Letha Mae Autaubo Goombi Peters
On Saturday, October 5, 2019, Letha Mae Autaubo Goombi Peters, loving Mother, Grandmother, and Sister, passed away at age 81. Prayer Service will be held Wednesday, October 9 at 7:00 pm at Comanche Nation Funeral Home. Funeral will be held Thursday, October 10 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Anadarko, OK.
Letha was born on March 20, 1938 in Lawton, OK to Francis and Mae (Ahkeahbo) Goombi. She attended Alden Schools and graduated from Anadarko High School. Letha attended Haskell Indian Nations College and continued to further her higher education and obtained a nursing degree in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years and retired at the age of 62.
In 1966, Letha married Mathew Peters and raised 6 children. Letha loved singing gospel music. At the age of 12, she was invited to sing with the Stamps Quartet of Gospel Music in Dallas, Texas. While attending high school, she was presented with an opportunity of singing at the Civic Center in Oklahoma City. In 2003, Letha and her sister Pat were invited to sing at the Billy Graham Crusade in Oklahoma City.
Letha and her sisters, known as the Goombi Sisters, continued singing gospel music, for many years at various events.
Letha had an infectious smile and compassionate spirit, along with a big heart. She was an avid Oklahoma University football and Oklahoma City Thunder fan and loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports.
She is preceded in death by her husband Mathew, daughter Francis, parents Francis and Mae Goombi, brother Hurley Goombi and sisters Kathleen Redbone and Ruby Lopez. She is survived by daughters Denise Smith and Janice Worcester of Oklahoma City, OK and Jackie Newton of Fort Dodge, IA, sons Jeff Wall of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Derick Peters of Wichita Falls, TX,and Jon Peters of Meers, OK. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
