Funeral for retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Leon L. Williams, 75, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 902 W Lee Blvd., Lawton, with Dr. Namon C. Melvin Sr. officiating.
Retired Sgt. 1st. Class Leon L. Williams died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, in Lawton.
Burial will military honors wil be at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Howard-Harris Funeral Services, Lawton.
He was born July 16, 1942, to Fred and Sally Williams in Chicago. He attended school in St. Ann, Ill. He served 23 years in the U.S. Army in field artillery, and retired having attained the rank of sergeant first class. After his military retirement, he was employed for two years by the City of Lawton. He recently retired from his job at Lowe's Home Center in Lawton, after 12 years of employment.
He loved his church, Mr. Calvary Baptist Church, where he and his wife were members for 36 years.
Surivivors include his wife, Henrietta Williams of Lawton; his brother, Harold (Connie) Williams, of Chicago; his daughter-in-law, Shantel Williams; his grandchildren: Shanteon, Leon III, Brian and Brittany; and two nephews and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Sally Mae Williams; his son, Leon Williams Jr.; two brothers: Samuel and Fred Williams; and his grandparents.
Viewing and visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at the funeral home, 1005 SW C. Ave.
