Sgt. Riley died peacefully Thursday, March 13, 2014.
Services are under direction of Whinery-Hudddleston Funeral Service.
He was born May 3, 1951, in Wapanucka, to Fred and Lorene Matthews Riley. Jerry was raised by his mother and stepfather, Luther Bates. He attended school in Wapanucka. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served four years. His choice to join the Marines was influenced greatly by his uncle, Larry Riley. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, Jerry enlisted in the Army Reserves, where he served for 29 years. He worked as an inspector of military equipment and an instructor, which he loved to do. He retired as a master sergeant in the ECS Unit at Fort Sill. He married Carolyn Squyres on Sept. 19, 2009, in Medicine Park. Jerry never met a stranger. He was loved for his giving and loving spirit, which won the hearts of anyone he met. He had many very close, long-lasting friendships. His favorite saying was, "If we share a meal we will become family forever," as witnessed by his hundreds of friends at the many gatherings he had at his home. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the pride of his life. He took great pride of being a member of the Masonic Lodge in Apache.
