James W. Thomas Jr.
SANGER, Texas Memorial service for James W. Thomas Jr., 79, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July, 14, 2018, at Gribble Springs Baptist Church, east of Sanger, Texas, with Larry Ruckman officiating. At his request James was donated to United Tissue Network for education and research. Inurnment will be at Gribble Springs Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Thomas passed away Monday, July 9, 2018.
James was born in Denton, Texas, to James Sr. and Buena Browning Thomas. He spent his early years in Orange, Calif., and then returned to Sanger, Texas. James became a Christian early in life. He enlisted in the Marine Corps during his senior year of high school, June 20, 1957, and discharged June 19, 1963, at the rank of corporal (E-4) with three years active and three years reserve, and while in the Marine Corps he completed his G.E.D. After the Marines he worked as a printing pressman until he joined the Army on May 11, 1972, and discharged March 10, 1976, at Fort Richardson, Alasak, with the rank of SP 5.
He married Peggy Joyce Odom on June 30, 1961, and lived in Sanger, Texas. After his Army days in Alaska they settled in Lawton for the last 42 years. While living in Lawton, James was a printing pressman and then a truck driver. He completed two years of college at Cameron University in Lawton. James loved and raised horses after retirement, and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; daughter, Katreena Dodd and husband Chad, Anacoco, La.; James "Trey" W. Thomas III and wife Laura, Lucas,Texas; grandchildren: Jessica Dodd, James "Court" W. Thomas IV, Ryan Thomas and Travis Thomas; siblings, Jessie Ashby Arvizu, Rae "Bunny" McWhorter, Rachel Pope,and Sandy Bowles; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wendell Thomas; and sister, Wanda Reed.
