James Alexander Wells was born Nov. 17, 1950, in Frederick, to Melvin Lee and Juanita Muse Wells. He attended Weaver School and graduated from Weaver High School in 1968. He continued his education at Southwestern State University and Sayre Junior College where he graduated in 1972. Jim was employed as a medical technician at several hospitals in New Mexico and then with the New Mexico Indian Hospital in Santa Fe. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Jim was a mountain man, simply born in the wrong century. He lived a simple life and found his wealth in the beauty of nature. He was happiest when in the mountains, hunting, fishing or cutting wood; but his greatest love was his family. While living his life on his own terms and in his own way, he leaves a legacy of love which will never be forgotten by his family and many friends.

Survivors include his mother, Juanita Griffin, Frederick; his father, Melvin Wells, Clinton; a daughter, Cheyanne Wells, Denver; a brother, Michael Lee "Mike" Wells, Norman; and a sister, Elizabeth Lynn Hammack, Bardstown, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Franklin and Sharlotte Mae Muse and Granville Wells and Ruby Wells McDonald.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Jim Wells.
