Hazel R. Dunbar

Funeral service for Hazel R. Dunbar will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019 in Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Kenn Lane, Pastor officiating.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Hazel R. Dunbar died Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in Lawton at the age of 95. She was born March 7, 1924 east of Lawton to G.W. and Mozella (Ledford) Burch. She was a graduate of Empire High School in Duncan and in 1947 graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. She married Wesley Don “Red” Dunbar on February 26, 1965 in Lawton. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1972.

She worked as a registered nurse with the Talley Walker Hospital for one year, the old Southwestern Hospital for six years, Dr’s Graybill, Wilson and Jack Orthopedic Clinic for 12 years, the Oklahoma Blood Institute for six years and the Comanche County Health Department for 12 years. She retired in 1990. Following her retirement she worked in the Baptist Associational Book Store for three years and also with Weight Watchers. She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and Alvin Sorrels; three grandchildren, Denton Sorrels and wife Kristin, Chelsa Surface and husband Matt and Parker Sorrels; three great granddaughters, Emory, Paisley and Trinity; two sisters, Ruby Welborn and Oweida Smiley; two brothers, Dr. Bobby Burch and wife Roberta and Leonard Burch and wife Marie; many nieces and nephews.

Her sister, Edna Morrow, and five brothers, Fred, Ned, Roy, Ivan and Dewey Burch, preceded her in death.
