Memorial service for George T. “Tom” Server, Sr. will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Dr. William B. Carlin, II of Duncan, Oklahoma officiating.
George T. “Tom” Server, Sr., 88, Lawton, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 in Lawton. He was born June 24, 1931 in Medicine Park, Oklahoma to Everett C. and Velta (Collier) Server. His family later moved to San Jose, California, where he graduated in the class of 1949 from San Jose High School, got married, and started a family. He founded an exterminating company there in 1969, Server’s Pest Control. He sold the business in 1989, retired and moved back to his roots near Lawton, Oklahoma. Tom later married Gwendolyn Marie (Brady) Servis on his birthday, June 24, 2000 in Dearborn, Michigan. She passed away on October 19, 2017.
Tom was an avid bass and crappie fisherman and was a co-founder of the BassBusters of Santa Clara County, which is a tournament bass fishing club and conservation group. He was a huge college football fan, especially the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. At one point, Tom had season tickets to all of the Oklahoma University home games. A few nights before Tom passed he was very much looking forward to the University of Oklahoma/Houston football game. Before his son left from his last visit Tom asked if his son would find his OU hat and put it on his head. Tom served as a volunteer fireman in his community, and also volunteered at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. Tom loved to cook, and was well known for his fried crappie and hushpuppies.
Tom is survived by his two sons, George Thomas Server, Jr. and wife Kris of San Jose, California, Donald Everett Server and wife Heather of Orem, Utah, one daughter, Susan Vivian Server of Los Gatos, California, five grandchildren, Kevin Thomas Server, Kari Lynn Lee and her husband Kevin, Lori Brown and her husband Brian, Jayden Server and Ethan Server, two sisters, Mary Lynn Datum and husband George of Joplin, Missouri, Barbara Ann Guardino of San Jose, California, two step daughters, Shanna Wickham and husband Stephen of Asheville, North Carolina, Becky Bergren and husband Carl of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a step son, Christopher Servis of Young Harris, Georgia, nine step grandchildren, Patrick Wickham and his wife Veronica, Stephanie Wickham, Sean Wickham and his wife Jennie, James Bergren and his wife Molly, Elizabeth Fons and her husband Danny, Stephen Bergren and his wife Christina, Kristen Servis-Calderwood, Andrew Servis, Ian Servis, six step great grandchildren, Rachel Wickham, Dylan Wickham, Jessica Wickham, Stephen Wickham, David Wickham, Charlotte Bergren and many other family members.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gwen, and sister Dion.
