FREDERICK Funeral for Frances JoElla Goodknight, 94, of Frederick, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Whitworth and David Barnett officiating.
Burial will follow in Frederick Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Dee Sykes officiating.
Mrs. Goodknight passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at a Frederick nursing center.
Frances JoElla McManus Goodknight was born Aug. 22, 1919, near Henrietta, Texas, to John Henry and Frances Ann Kelley McManus. She attended Pleasant Valley School northeast of Frederick, transferring to Frederick and then to Chattanooga, where she graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1936. On Dec. 31, 1941, she and Arthur Melvin Goodknight were united in marriage at Tipton. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1992. She was a homemaker and had worked for Frederick Public Schools as a library assistant. While Michael was in school, she served as a band parent. Frances and others were instrumental in compiling the Tillman County History Books. She was the driving force in founding the Town Site Museum and helped secure the Horse Creek School which became a focal point on the museum property. Later she spent the better part of 35 years working and volunteering in all aspects of the museum.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores Stoll-Green and her husband Mike Green, of Stillwater; two sons: Melvin Goodknight, of Frederick; and Michael Goodknight and his wife Stephanie Fisher Goodknight, of Carrollton, Texas; one brother, James McManus, of Lawton; one sister, Lorena Crook, of Lawton; two grandchildren: Jayne Taylor and her husband Steve, of Cleveland, Tenn.; and Jerry Stoll and his wife Paula, of Stillwater; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Frances Annette Goodknight; and two sisters: Dorothy McManus who died in infancy and Mildred Sanders.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tillman County Historical Museum or the Memorial Nursing Home Fund in memory of Frances JoElla Goodknight.
The family will greet family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home..
