Eldon Ham

Funeral service for Eldon Ham, 94, of Elgin, Oklahoma, will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the Fletcher First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery under the direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral Home.

Mr. Ham passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 94.

Eldon Grady Ham was born April 7, 1924 in Pernell, Oklahoma to Zeffie and Susie (Brown) Ham. He attended West View School until the 7th grade. Eldon served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he was a Combat Medic. He fought in Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France, and Central Europe and helped in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp in 1945. Eldon received 4 bronze stars for his faithful service. Eldon married Betty Thomas on February 19, 1949 in Wichita Falls, Texas. The couple would have celebrated their 67th when Betty passed away in 2016. After the two married, they moved to Odessa, Texas for a few years before moving back to Oklahoma in 1953. Eldon worked for Halliburton for 33 ½ years, as a mechanic for 16 years, and then a supervisor for 17 ½ years. He belonged to the Blue Lodge in Seminole in 1953, the McAlister Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Mason in 1957, and the Bristow Elks Lodge in 1964. Eldon and Betty moved to Elgin in 1996 where he owned and operated his lawn mower business for over 20 years. He met so many people in his time in Elgin and was known as Great Grandpa to all the small children he knew. Eldon was so appreciative for all the people who he had done business with and who cared for him and Betty.

He is survived by his son, Eldon Ray Ham and Larry, of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Zeffie and Susie Brown; his wife, Betty Ham; 1 son, Grady Brent Ham; 5 brothers: Jim, Wid, Homer, Jodie, and Lonnie; and 2 sisters: Virginia and Ruth.
