David Patton Barber
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. Retired Command Sgt. Major David Patton Barber, 78, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, at Tennessee State Veterans' Home.
David entered into this life on July 10, 1940, in Greenwood, Texas, son of the late Edith and Bert Barber. He was a 1958 graduate of Brock School. After 30 years of service, David retired from the Army. During his time of service, he was awarded The National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-3, Overseas Service Bars-2, Overseas Service Ribbon-8, Meritorious Service Medal with Second Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Service Ribbon, and an Army Achievement Medal. David was also awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal-10, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Republic Vietnam Citizen Action Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Legion of Merit. After retirement from the military, he was the owner and operator of David's Home Improvement in Lawton.
Survivors include his loving wife, Celine Goldrick Barber; daughters, Deborah (Gerry) Hailey, and Shari Skaggs; brothers, Charles and Ted Barber; sister, Mary Puyear; grandchildren, January Lynn Skaggs, Amanda (Curtis) Johnson, Ashley West, Theresa (Charley) Grubbs, Madison Hailey, MacKenzie Hailey, and Sarah Prater; great-grandchildren, Reid, Cameron, Layla, Presleigh, Andrew, Ainsley, and Samantha.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Winburn Barber.
CSM (Ret) David Barber will be laid to rest Sept. 1, 2018, at Greenwood Cemetery, in Weatherford, Texas.
