Charles ‘Pete’ Petro, Jr.

Funeral service for Charles “Pete” Petro, Jr. will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Neighbors officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma.

The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Charles “Pete” Petro, Jr., age 58, Lawton, fought long and hard against esophageal cancer and gained his heavenly wings to fly home on Friday, August 2, 2019 in Lawton. He was born May 28, 1961 in Gary, Indiana to Charles Joseph and Shelia Rae (Myers) Petro, Sr.. Pete attended Lowell High School in Lowell, Indiana and was active in the ROTC program. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1978 as an electrical/mechanical repairman for Pershing 1 missiles and achieving a rank of SPC. While stationed at Fort Sill, Pete met and married Donelda Lynn Childs on February 16, 1980. He finished his army tour honorably with the 41st Ordinance Company with his wife in West Germany. The couple returned to Lawton where Pete worked for Martin Marietta. He changed his career path and began working in the propane industry at Lawton L.P. Gas Company for 22 years.

Pete was a big and friendly man that never knew a stranger. He loved animals especially his black bulldog, Mac, and his “man cave” that he and his best friend, Darrell Townley built together. He was a joker, smoker and a midnight toker. He made life fun with his orneriness.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years of the home, four sons, Charles Petro, III and companion Tonya of Lawton, Heath Petro and wife Mikaela of Snyder, Andrew Petro and wife Elizabeth Downing, and Nickolas W. Petro all of the home, 14 grandchildren, Chase, Skyy, Josiah, Jiovanni, Leena, Justice, Jagger, Charley Jo, Jupiter, Victoria, Aaliyah, Andrew Jr., Jazilyn, and Nichole, one sister, June Gibson and one aunt, Karen Trial both of Portage, Indiana three brothers-in-law, Dion Childs and wife Eunice of San Bernardino, California, Ronald Childs and wife Misty of Columbus, Georgia, and Tommy Childs of Lawton, one sister-in-law, Mary Gras and husband Mike of Snyder, his father, Charles J. Petro, Sr. and many other family members and friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Petro, a grandson, Terry Petro, his mother, Shelia Groeneveld, grandparents, Myers and Petro, his uncle, David Trial and his bulldog, Mac.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the wonderful doctors and nurses of the Leah M. Fitch Cancer Center.
