Billy Lee Ford

Funeral service for Billy Lee Ford will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2019 at the Southside Baptist Church, Snyder, Oklahoma with Rev. Tom Peevyhouse, Pastor and Rev. Mike Teel, Pastor of Cameron Baptist Church, Lawton officiating.

Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home of Snyder.

The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.

Billy Lee Ford, 85, Snyder passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was born December 7, 1933 on the family farm in Tillman County, Oklahoma to Lee and Lorena (Whitesides) Ford. He attended the Prairie View, Indiahoma and Snyder Schools, graduating from Snyder in 1951. On August 21, 1959 he married Edith Aline Caraway in Pueblo, Colorado. They had just celebrated their 60th anniversary in August. Bill served in the US Army for two years, and after his discharge he went to work for Lawton Transit Mix, Walker Lumber Co. and the US Postal Service. He also spent time farming both of his family farms as long as his health permitted. He and his son Allen operated a custom harvesting business. He served as a volunteer fireman for 30 years, the last several as Chief of the department. He served as a city councilman for four years, Mayor from 1999 until 2002, and drove a school bus for Snyder Schools. He had a servants heart, as he and Edith served as foster parents for over 30 years. Billy was a Christian and a member of Prairie View Baptist, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1972. He was instrumental in the merging of Prairie View and Otter Creek Baptist Churches to form Southside Baptist Church, where he not only served as a deacon, but also music minister, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. He spent many hours building the current church as it is today. His most recent honor came when he was selected as an Outstanding Alumni by the Snyder Alumni Association. He was nominated by his granddaughter Dr. Ashlee Ford-Versypt.

Billy is survived by his wife Edith, children; Debbie and Lyndle Stoll, Marilyn Ford, Allen and Pam Ford and Courtney Ford, grandchildren; Johnelle and Darren Lamar, Dr. Ashlee and Joel Versypt, Haley and Reggie Copeland, Jason Stoll, Kelsey Ford, Caden and Zander White and great granddaughters; Darra, Jaelie and Izabella Lamar, Leila, Jada and Tatiana Copeland, foster children; Trish Cole Edwards, Ruthie Michael, Daniel Alaniz, Rebekah Abshere, Daniel Blackburn and many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Robert and Hazel Caraway, brother-in-law R.A. Caraway and a foster son Billy Don Cole.

Memorial contributions may be made to; Southside Baptist Church, Snyder Volunteer Fire Department or to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.
