Betty Ruth Wright

Funeral for Betty Ruth Wright, 81, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Ken Couch officiating.

Burial will be in Post Cemetery at Fort Sill.

Battling her illness to the end and loved by many, Mrs. Wright passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018, in Plano, Texas.

She was born April 10, 1937, in Cache to Lonnie Frank and Viola May (Williams) Gordon. She spent her youth struggling to keep a family together through desperate times. She sacrificed much of her teenage life as she worked at a cafÈ and shepherded her brothers and sister through school and life's daily chores. These times did not defeat nor dampen her spirit. Her will and love for family were forged in that small town and would prove to carry her through the rest of her life as wife, mother, grandmother and devoted friend to so many.

She was married to her husband, Doug, on Sept. 18, 1961, in Sweetwater, Texas. They were married for 51 years before Doug passed away in 2013 at their home in Lawton. Mrs. Wright was the loving and devoted wife of a soldier who was often deployed around the world or away for training. There were sacrifices to be made, and she spent many lonely days apart from Doug while taking care of the home and nurturing their three children. She was known for her ability to make others laugh and smile. Her bright eyes and warm heart always made her family and friends feel at home. No one could maintain a home like her  always cleaning and often carrying on daily conversations with a broom in her hand. If there was one thing that she wanted most, it was for her family to be happy, to love one another and to never let their lives be defined by the circumstances that surrounded them. Mrs. Wright was very proud of her children, who have followed in their parents' footsteps and raised beautiful families who loved each other through good and bad times and, when forced to make hard decisions, always put family first. Greg, Jeff and Lisa were truly blessed to have a loving mother like Betty. She can rest in peace knowing her dreams for her children have been fulfilled.

Mrs. Wright is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: retired Col. Gregory and Pam Wright and retired Command Sgt. Major Jeffrey and Tina Wright; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Steve Sanderson; 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Wright, Felicia (Wright) Wilkins, Alexander Wright, Austin Wright, Dakota Wright, Savannah Wright, Stephen Sanderson, Brittany Sanderson, Madison Henry and Chase Sanderson; two great-grandchildren: Brantley Wilkins and Zoey Cyrus; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Wright, and survived by six siblings, Audry-Jean (Gordon) Lewis, Richard Gordon, Jimmy Gordon, Larry Gordon, Ron Gordon and Susan (Martin) Ulrich.

A special viewing and visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2018, at the funeral home.
