Woman stabbed to death

A woman was found stabbed to death inside a northwest Lawton motel room late Wednesday, resulting in the arrest of her husband who has a history of abuse allegations with the victim.

No formal charges have been filed stemming from the ongoing investigation into 48-year-old Irene Haynes' death, but her 51-year-old husband was arrested Wednesday night on a second-degree murder complaint, police records show.

Lawton Police Department Capt. Craig Akard said detectives "were still very involved in the collection and processing of evidence with this homicide, as well as the earlier ones" Thursday, so lieutenants didn't have much time to talk to media following the homicide. However, The Constitution was able to find out the suspect and his wife of only nine months had a history of domestic abuse and that this wasn't the first time he was alleged to have victimized her at knifepoint.

According to an LPD press release, officers responded to a stabbing call around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at Budget Inn, 1411 Cache Road. When officers arrived, police saw a black man leaving the room where the stabbing had occurred with blood on his hands, body and clothes, the release said.

Haynes was found inside the room with an undetermined number of stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
