Woman credits dog for saving her from robbery

A 38-year-old woman claimed her dog saved her from being robbed and raped during a Thursday morning walk on the city's northwest side, police said.

Police met with the woman Thursday evening after she went to the hospital for treatment of injuries she suffered in the attack.

According to the incident report, the woman said she was walking her dog in the alley of the 2300 block of Northwest Williams Avenue between 9:30-10 a.m. when two black men  one with a knife  grabbed her and demanded money. She said she didn't have any and was struck in the face with a pipe, police Capt. Craig Akard said. She told police the men tried to rape her when she told them she didn't have any money and were trying to forcibly remove her pants when her dog growled and snapped at them and chased them away.
