Warriors in Transition Picnic set Saturday
Three veterans' organizations will present their second annual Warriors in Transition Picnic and Festival on Saturday.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5263, the Pershing Professionals Association and the Lawton-Fort Sill Sergeants Major Association welcome all warriors in transition at Fort Sill and the surrounding area, as well as their immediate family members. The event is free for those families, according to Tiger Gaines, president of the local chapter of the Pershing Professionals Association.
The event will be open to the public, and the organizers encourage everyone to come out to support the wounded warriors while enjoying the food and festivities, Gaines said.
Cost is $5 for adults and children age 6 and over. All children under 6 are free.
The picnic and festival will start at 10 a.m. and run all day. It will be on a 20-acre site adjacent to VFW Post 5263, 103 NE 20th. A barbecue meal of beef, pork, hot dogs, hamburgers and plenty of trimmings will be served. There will be three live bands End N Tymz, Red Dirt Renegades and Jelibred a DJ named "Guy Guy," and karaoke and dancing. For adults there will be bingo, darts and pool. For children there will be pony rides, face painting, a moon bounce and other activities.
