Voters select commissioners, judge, DA
Voters returned District Attorney Fred Smith and District Judge Emmit Tayloe to office Tuesday, while Comanche County voters kept one commissioner incumbent and selected a new commissioner for the Western District.
Tayloe easily fended off a challenge from long-time Lawton attorney Jay Walker to keep his District 5, Office 1 seat, taking 60.12 percent of the votes cast in the four-county area he represents. He won 24,032 votes (60.13 percent), including 13,063 in Comanche County (where he won 64.48 percent of the vote). By contrast, Walker won 15,938 votes (39.87 percent), including 8,788 (35.52 percent) in Comanche County.
Tayloe was excited by the win and by the mandate he said it represents.
