Tuesday night fire totals unoccupied home on 23rd Place
Lawton firefighters scrambled Tuesday night to contain a house fire that totaled an unoccupied home west of South Sheridan Road.
Assistant Fire Chief Thad Hulbert said firefighters responded to a 10:06 p.m. call to a house fire at 614 SW 23rd Place. The opening salvo of what would end up an armada of seven trucks arrived to find the unoccupied home engulfed in flame. By the time they left the scene around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the fire was out but an investigation was begun into its origin.
“Witnesses said the placed was used by vagrants,” Hulbert said. “It’s a total loss.”
