Paolo Dulcamara has been the principal of St. Mary's Catholic School for the past five years, but now he is taking on a new challenge.
Dulcamara was approved by the Lawton Public Schools Board of Education during a Jan. 16 meeting to be new assistant principal at MacArthur Middle School. He started that position full time Wednesday.
Dulcamara said he will still be around St. Mary's for a few weeks, finishing up some projects. No replacement has yet been named for the principal's position at St. Mary's, he added.
Dulcamara has been planning a move to a middle school administrative position for a while.
Working at MacArthur Middle School will be a homecoming for him, since he taught Spanish there before he became the principal of St. Mary's. Prior to that, he was a seminarian and served in the Navy.
"That is the age group I am most interested in working with," he said.
Dulcamara also said it is important to change jobs every five or six years to stay fresh. He believes his leaving St. Mary's will ultimately benefit both his own career and both schools involved.
He said it is his hope that the next principal at St. Mary's will look at his accomplishments and find ways to improve the school even more.
However, Dulcamara said he never intended to leave St. Mary's in the middle of the school year.
