Smoke call cues citizens to check A/C
As a couple of dozen people from Lacy Center onto the downtown streets of Lawton on Wednesday, firefighters followed a smoke trail all too common during summer.
Assistant Fire Chief Eric Troutman said that a call shortly after 3 p.m. sent responders to the building, 431 SW C, after smoke was reported pouring from the building's vents. With near-100 degree heat and unabated sunshine overhead, the misery felt outside was more inferno than that discovered inside the corner building.
Following an inside building check, a pair of firefighters loaded into the bucket of the ladder truck to be lifted onto the roof to check out the two-story building's air conditioning unit. With a good sized gap between bucket and building, the firefighters took calculated leaps of faith to reach the rooftop.
