Schoolhouse brigade command changes
Command of the Field Artillery School's schoolhouse brigade passed from Col. Gene D. Meredith to Col. John P. Delaney on Thursday.
Meredith's next assignment will be in South Korea as fire support officer, ground branch operations officer and secretary joint staff of Special Operations Command Europe.
The incoming commander of 428th Field Artillery Brigade is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, who grew up in North Springfield, Va. He was commissioned in the field artillery when he graduated from Elon University in 1991 with a degree in business administration. He has been an aide de camp for the commandant of the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pa., and has had two deployments to Iraq and one to Afghanistan.
"Today we bid farewell to Gene and Sam Meredith," said Brig. Gen. Christopher Bentley, commandant of the Field Artillery School and chief of the Field Artillery branch.
Bentley described the Merediths as a family he and his wife Anne were "born to serve with." In 1997 then Maj. Bentley arrived in the 82nd Airborne Division and then Capt. Meredith, a young battery commander, walked in to explain how things were run.
"From that day on, I've had a friend and a battle buddy and a jump buddy who has meant the world to me professionally and personally.
