Relay for Life to be held later this year
The Relay for Life is an event that the American Cancer Society hosts every year to raise money for research and assistance to local residents who are suffering from cancer and it’s usually held in Lawton the end of April.
This year, the event will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. June 8 at the Bentley Gardens area of the Cameron University campus. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Aggie Rec Center.
Relay for Life funds are used for many situations, including providing cancer patients and their caregivers a place to stay when they go to Houston, Texas, for treatments, rides to and from treatments and enabling cancer survivors to have someone to talk to over the phone 24/7.
“We’ll have team captain meetings once a month so we can get all the kinks ironed out before the event,” said Nicole Grebs, who is the area manager for Relay for Life. “We want to meet or surpass our goal of last year and I know with everyone working together, we can do it.”
