Police, prison investigate inmate for contra-bending the rules
Lawton police and the local prison are investigating an allegation of an attempt to smuggle contraband behind bars.
LPD Officer Tyler Zehren reported being called with other officers shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday to Lawton Correctional Facility, 8607 SE Flower Mound, on the report of possession of contraband.
A correctional officer said that during a strip search of an inmate following visitation, a black package was seen being taken from the inmate’s mouth and placed in his rectum, the report states. When confronted, he told the officer “It’s only tobacco.” The officer believed the package contained controlled dangerous substances but he couldn’t be sure. He said it would take about three days before personnel could retrieve the contraband from the inmate.
