New governor holds his first pre-inaugural event in Lawton
Kevin Stitt drew a crowd of well-wishers to Great Plains Coliseum Thursday, during the first of a series of pre-inaugural events marking the approach of his first day of his first term as Oklahoma’s governor.
The governor-elect selected Lawton as the first host in those pre-inaugural celebrations. Dubbed the Bison Bash, the event featured a barbecue dinner, entertainment in the form of country music, and plenty of southwest Oklahomans who wanted a chance to talk to Stitt before his inauguration ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Oklahoma City. Other events are planned Saturday in Jenks and Tulsa, before his inauguration and inaugural ball in Oklahoma City.
Stitt said his decision to hold the first pre-inaugural event in Lawton was deliberate, just as was his announcement in Lawton in October 2017 that he was running for governor. He likes Lawton and southwest Oklahoma, and plans to continue visiting the area, Stitt said, with a smile before Thursday’s celebration got underway.
