National Register series to begin

EDITOR’S NOTE: Beginning Jan. 14, The Constitution will begin a series of articles spotlighting sites in our area that are on the National Register of Historic Places.

The National Register of Historic Places was authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act (1966) to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate and protect our nation’s historic and archeological resources.

The National Register is administered by the National Park Service and lists more than 90,000 districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects that it has determined to be significant to American history, architecture, archeology, engineering and culture.
