More cemetery markers planned for Code Talkers

The Comanche Indian Veterans Association will continue planting granite markers Saturday at the gravesites of the Comanche Code Talkers of World Wars I and II.

A detail from the CIVA began placement of 4-by-10-by-20-inch gray granite markers at the gravesites of 21 Comanche Code Talkers earlier this month. Each marker includes the rank and full name and whether he served in World War I or World War II. Fourteen of the markers will be inscribed "OK Military Hall of Fame 2011," said Lanny Asepermy, CIVA historian. 

Family and friends are invited to placement ceremonies:

nSaturday  Saddle Mountain Cemetery: Simmons Parker, 11 a.m.

Post Oak Cemetery: Forrest Kassanavoid, 12:30 p.m.; Larry Saupitty, 1 p.m.; and Morris Tabbyyetchy, 1:30 p.m.

Deyo Mission Cemetery: Gilbert Conwoop, 2:30 p.m.; George Clark, 3 p.m.

Highland Cemetery: Calvin Atchavit, 3:30 p.m.; and Clifford Ototivo Sr., 4 p.m.

nMay 5  Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Bow, Charles Chibitty, 1 p.m.
