Sun, 01/26/2014 - 3:20am Scott Rains
Community meetings for concerned Comanches are slated this week as a tribal member circulates a petition for a special tribal council meeting to address multiple issues and to seek recall of a Comanche Business Committee (CBC) member.
Eleanor McDaniel is circulating a petition calling for a special meeting to address a the issues as well as the recall of Gary Tahmahkera, CBC secretary/treasurer. McDaniel is looking to collect the 200 or more signatures necessary in order to call for a special tribal council meeting. Meetings are slated for the following dates and locations:
• Tuesday, 4-8 p.m., Walters Public Library Meeting Room;
• Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Lawton Public Library Room No. 2;
• Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Cache Housing Authority Community Building (there will be a fundraiser Indian taco sale).
McDaniel has been circulating a petition with a series of particulars for Comanches to consider. She also included a petition calling for Tahmahkera's recall on allegations of neglect of duty and what she said was "conduct that has brought disrepute upon the Comanche Nation." The recall petition points out charges that tie in with the special meeting petition that she's been circulating the past few weeks.
