The house sits on land selected by Mattie Beal, whose name was the second one drawn in the Kiowa-Comanche land lottery of 1901.
Built in 1907-09 by Charles and Mattie (Beal) Payne, this mansion was designed with Neoclassical Greek Revival-style elements, baroque ornamentation and a Mediterranean-style roof.
The first floor consists of a reception hall, parlor, living room, dining room, half bath, maid’s room, pantry and kitchen. The second floor has three bedrooms, a full bathroom and a ballroom. There also is a basement and attic.
