Man arrested in Thursday stabbing; victim identified
A man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing death Thursday morning that resulted in Lawton’s 15th confirmed homicide of the year and the fifth within the week.
The man has not been formally charged in the death of Verlene Murphy, 58, according to a recent Lawton Police Department press release.
Police were called around 4:30 a.m. to the 1600 block of Northwest Black Mesa on the report of a 58-year-old woman suffering a stab wound, according to Sgt. Tim Jenkins, Lawton Police information officer.
It is unknown what caused the incident, according to Jenkins.
“The investigation is now being investigated as a homicide,” Jenkins said.
Police are still investigating the incident that occurred last Saturday around 2 p.m. in the 100 block of Southeast Trenton Road.
Officers were called to the Trenton Road location on the report of a shooting. They arrived to find a woman and her two children dead along with the suspect.
Jenkins identified the victims as Krystle Rose Marie Easley, 34; Emma Lena Mary Cliburn, 6; and Kristo James Robert Cliburn, 5; all of Lawton. An unidentified adult male also was dead at the scene.
