LPS to celebrate MLK Tuesday
Lawton Public Schools will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. with the 2019 “Lift Every Voice” event Tuesday at the Lawton High School auditorium, 601 Fort Sill Blvd.
Coordinated by LPS teachers David Duncan and Breshya Lewis, the event will begin at 6 p.m. with performances by the LPS Children’s Choir, Eisenhower High School choir and the Lawton High School drumline. Keynote speakers will include Lawton Mayor Stan Booker and assistant superintendent Barbara Ellis.
Tom Deighan, LPS superintendent, said he’s proud of how the new generation of children and young adults have embraced diversity.
“As I look across our classrooms, I see Dr. King’s vision realized in a generation of children and young adults who see character, not color. They do not eschew diversity, but rather embrace it without malice or prejudice,” Deighan said. “In fact, this generation of students embraces diversity without much consideration at all — a truly significant milestone.”
