LPD officers receive promotions
Families and friends of four Lawton police officers gathered Friday to celebrate a recent round of promotions.
Lawton Police Chief James Smith said that while all four men had worked exceptionally hard themselves, studying and preparing for the tests and interviews, they wouldn't have been able to achieve without the assistance and support of their families.
Those family members and friends helped pin regalia onto the new captain and three lieutenants to signify their new positions.
Capt. Brian Morris is president of the local chapter of the International Union of Police Associations and has been a member of the executive board for more than 10 years. Morris began his service with the department Jan. 13, 1987, as a patrol officer and a traffic reconstructionist. He worked as a detective and a technical investigator until he was promoted to lieutenant in January 2011, when he went back to supervise on patrol. Last April he moved over to the Special Operations Division. Morris, a graduate of Cameron University, is also one of the original members of the department's dive team and has been on the tactical team for 12 years.
