Love of animals helps mom, daughter open Dog Town
You have to enjoy animals and be able to handle the many personalities of both animals and humans to operate a grooming business.
When it’s been your lifelong dream, it comes easily. Just ask Stacy Rains and her daughter, Haley Catlett.
The pair just opened Dog Town Grooming and are glad that they are where they are. When the pair first began dreaming of opening their doors, the location was in their eyes. When the time was right, and with a plan for their perfect shop set-up ready, the stars aligned and things fell into place.
“I have been grooming dogs since 2006 and my daughter has been in the grooming business since 2011, so we both have experience,” Rains said. “I’ve always wanted to own my own shop and now my dream has come true. It’s gratifying work and I enjoy it a lot.”
Experience is the little extra this dynamic duo offer. Both are Eisenhower High School graduates. But it was years of training with some of the best groomers that made the mark.
“Haley and I trained under a master groomer as apprentices,” Rains said. “About 80 percent of grooming is handling the dog properly. You have to know how to handle them and understand dogs.”
