Lincoln students raise money for animals
Lincoln Elementary School's student council wants to ensure Lawton animals benefit from student fundraising skills.
The school's recently reconstituted student council was given a choice of fundraising activities this school year, and animals quickly popped to the top of the list, said Brandie Knutson, student council sponsor.
Knutson said student council officers were told that they needed to select two fundraising projects for the year and teacher sponsors offered them a list of things to consider. Students quickly settled on a project that benefited animals, Kuntson said, adding that the school's students also were issued a challenge: If they met the fundraising goal, the student council would pop popcorn and provide it free to students.
Students got to collect on that pledge, Knutson said.
"By the end of it, 90 percent of the kids had participated," she estimated of the school's students, saying that donations included everything from pennies to larger bills.
