Job prospects rise at Red River Career Expo
Job hunters had the chance to meet and greet employers in Cameron University's Aggie Rec Center Thursday afternoon, during the annual Red River Career Expo.
Paula Merrifield, career services coordinator at Cameron, said about 82 employers packed the Rec Center throughout the afternoon to talk with around 1,200 potential employees. The event has grown larger over the years.
"The turnout has been unbelievable," Merrifield said.
The employers who set up booths ranged from local restaurants like Chick-fil-A, to large industrial employers like the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., and local service industry heavyweights like the Apache Casino Hotel. Local hospitals and other medical providers were heavily represented, as were local banks, the cities of Lawton and Wichita Falls, Texas; and various state and federal agencies.
Out-of-state employers came from as far away as Nebraska. School districts and police departments from across Oklahoma and Texas were there to recruit also.
