Families, friends grateful for soldiers' return
Some 70 Fort Sill soldiers were welcomed home following a 10-month deployment during a redeployment ceremony Monday in the Rinehart Fitness Center at Fort Sill.
Those soldiers are from the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade. During their deployment, the brigade members provided air and missile defense throughout the Central Command Area of Operations. They also participated in multiple air defense exercises which served to integrate air defense forces of all services and coalition partners across the area of responsibility.
The redeployment ceremony kicked off with Col. Michael T. Morrissey and Command Sgt. Maj. Gerardo Dominguez uncasing the brigade colors, symbolizing the return to Fort Sill. Maj. Gen. Mark McDonald then expressed his appreciation to the soldiers for their mission in Southwest Asia and their families for their sacrifices during that deployment.
"Thanks for what you did. You did a fantastic job on your mission. Thanks for the mission and now please take care of yourselves," he said. "Those soldiers cannot deploy and stay focused on their mission without your support."
Morrissey was one of the soldiers who deployed to Southwest Asia.
