City may spend millions on projects
The City Council will meet in special session today as city leaders solicit input about a new Capital Improvements Program.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Lawton City Hall, Southwest 9th Street and C Avenue.
While the meeting isn't posted for a public hearing, Mayor Fred Fitch said last week that public participation and discussion of the proposals are crucial to the success of the CIP the council ultimately approves. City Manager Bryan Long and Ward 3 Councilwoman Rosemary Bellino-Hall also said that the public must have an opportunity to voice its concerns and questions.
Council members at Tuesday's session are expected to weigh financial projections and look at two broad-based proposals: one supported by three council members who said they have been meeting with city administrators and community entities for weeks to craft a broad-based list of community projects, and another offered by Long at the end of last week's council discussion, which included funding for public safety personnel and equipment.
