Wolverines mount big rally to prevail; Mac girls coast

Not so fast, MacArthur.

The Highlanders were a few mere seconds away from securing a sweep of city rival Lawton High, but a timely offensive rebound and putback from Wolverines center Ashawnti Hunter forced overtime, helping LHS to a 73-70 win in Friday’s nightcap.

In the girls game, Alie Warner led Mac to a 66-35 win in her first contest against LHS since transferring from the school after last season.

Hunter’s late score lifts LHS past Mac

Ashawnti Hunter wouldn’t be denied.

After Sep Reese sunk a free throw with 16.9 seconds remaining in regulation to give Mac a two-point lead, LHS had one chance to prevent its second-straight loss.

Demarcus Andrews took the ball nearly the length of the court on the ensuing inbounds pass, and after getting past Montez Edwards, he tossed a pass to an awaiting Hunter under the basket.
