Tre Harris, Ike take out Guthrie in extra-inning regional contest
An already long day of baseball was made even longer courtesy of Tre Harris.
The sun had long set after a late start to a 5A regional playoff game in which Eisenhower trailed Guthrie when Harris, a senior pitcher and outfielder, stepped to the plate. The last two at bats hadn’t ended the way he might have hoped. He both grounded out and flew out after recording a single in the opening inning.
But Harris remained unfazed.
He calmly drilled a pitch to deep center field for a double, scoring Martin Ledezma from first. Later, he would score the tying run on a wild pitch after stealing third. Harris’ efforts ensured the game would go to extra innings, where a gassed Guthrie pitching staff walked one too many batters, resulting in an 8-4 victory for the Ike.
