Stephenson hired as new Cameron volleyball coach
Cameron University has selected a veteran from the junior college ranks to become its next head volleyball coach.
Brandon Stephenson, who spent the last three seasons directing the Barton Community College program in Great Bend, Kan., succeeds Tatiana Booth as the Cameron mentor.
Booth resigned last month to become an assistant in the Tennessee State program. TSU is an NCAA Division I institution located in Nashville.
Jim Jackson, Cameron’s athletic director, announced the hiring of Stephenson.
“We are fortunate to hire someone like Coach Stephenson to lead the Aggie volleyball program so late in the summer,” Jackson said. “We have a good foundation that was built by Coach Booth, and I expect Coach Stephenson to step in, build on what we have, and help our program take the next step in the tough Lone Star Conference.”
Stephenson led Barton Community College to a third place finish in the Jayhawk West in 2018, and his players also ranked in the top 5 in NJCAA in team GPA. The program had five players that were Academic All-Americans and four received All-Conference and All-Region honors. Two years prior, they held the crown for highest team GPA with eight Cougars receiving All-Academic honors.
